Robert (Bob) Scott Cox is Director of Litigation for Ben Crump Law and a sixth-generation Floridian. He is a board certified civil trial lawyer with 35 years of jury trial experience in state and federal Courts. He has an AV rating from Martindale Hubble – the highest rating for both professional competence and ethics. His practice primarily focuses on personal injury and corporate litigation.
Mr. Cox graduated with honors from the Florida State University College of Law in 1979 and was admitted to the Florida Bar. After a year in Panama City, Florida, he returned to Tallahassee and joined Messer, Rhodes, Vickers & Hart. He represented insurance carriers and corporations in business and personal injury litigation. He was board certified as a specialist in Civil Trial Law in 1984.
In the 1980s Mr. Cox taught semester-long seminars in personal injury law for the Florida State University College of Law. He has authored numerous articles on trial practice and teaches continuing education seminars for the Florida Bar and other groups.
From 1988 to 1992 Mr. Cox was general counsel to the Florida High Speed Magnetic Levitation Demonstration Project. His clients included the Japanese National Railways and the German Maglev Consortium, Transrapid. He was lead counsel in all administrative and technical proceedings concerning the project. He was appointed to the National Academy of Science, Transportation Research Board, and served as a consultant to Congress and the Volpe National Transportation Research Center. He has written extensively in this field and published in numerous scholarly and popular journals.
In 1992 Mr. Cox founded Cox & Burns in Tallahassee to focus on civil litigation, representing plaintiffs. In 2012, he founded the Law Offices of Robert Cox to assist clients and other firms as a consulting attorney.
As a trial lawyer, Mr. Cox won multiple verdicts and settlements in excess of a million dollars. As such, he is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. He has appeared at all levels of state court in Florida, including the Florida Supreme Court.
Mr. Cox’s outside interests include the Outward Bound School, whose mission is to urge students to value forming experiences through challenges usually in wilderness environments. He is currently on the board of the North Carolina Outward Bound School. He served on the National Outward Bound board where he chaired the committee for at risk students. He served on the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School board. He participated in expeditions to Africa, Patagonia, Peru, the Himalayas, and in the United States. He summited numerous mountains, including Mt. Rainier
Bob Cox was born in Fort Myers, Florida. He attended the University of South Florida. He has three children and three grandchildren.
