About the Community Leadership Scholarship
As a renowned civil rights attorney, Ben Crump, founder of Ben Crump Law PLLC, has always placed a tremendous value on the importance of community leadership. Today, with his legal
team, Crump strives to find similarly impassioned leaders of tomorrow and help them achieve their goals of leading communities toward a better future.
Why We Created This Scholarship
Civil rights leader and U.S. congressman John Lewis once said, “What I try to tell young people is that if you come together with a mission, and it’s grounded with love and a sense of community, you can make the impossible possible.”
Communities depend on leadership to thrive. These leaders trumpet the voice of the people, speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves, fighting for the powerless and weak, and envisioning for those who want a better future but do not know how to make it happen.
Community leaders empathize, communicate, analyze, and solve. By listening to the needs and wants of their neighbors, a truly inspired community leader can awaken minds, build economies, and generate harmony. These leaders drive change and foster hope by shining a light on the pathway to better things.
With these ideals in mind, our law firm created the Community Leadership Scholarship. We want to encourage those students who share this grasp of the value of community leadership and who demonstrate the potential to make their mark in their own communities.
The Ideal Applicant
We have no preconceived notion for how the scholarship winner will look—on paper, or otherwise. We hope to receive applications from a wide variety of college-bound students. Yes, we would like to see some academic history that enlightens us as to your potential in college, but more importantly, we want to be inspired by your role as a community leader and/or how you see that role shaping in the future.
