PHOENIX, Ariz. –– Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump has been retained by the family of Imani Jackson, a 46-year-old Black man who was fatally shot by Phoenix police on Saturday, August 10. According to police reports, Jackson was shot after allegedly reaching for his waistband during a traffic stop.
Attorney Crump issued the following statement:
“The death of Imani Jackson is a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers Black men face in interactions with law enforcement. We demand the immediate release of the Phoenix police body cam footage to ensure transparency and accountability. We will not rest until the truth is uncovered and the family receives closure.
“The Jackson family deserves to know exactly what happened to their loved one in his final moments. The public also has a right to transparency in cases where the use of deadly force is involved. We will continue to fight for justice on behalf of Imani and all those affected by this tragedy.”
