KINGSTON, N.Y. (September 25, 2025) – Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump and Andrew Finkelstein, Managing Partner of Finkelstein & Partners and President of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, have been retained by Alonzo Jordan Jr., a 26-year-old Black man who was arrested by the New York State Police. On April 16, 2025, Jordan was taken into custody after law enforcement traced an anonymous CyberTip about illicit material to an IP address in the four-unit building where he lived. Although the building’s internet was shared among all tenants and no electronic evidence was ever found linking Jordan to the alleged material, he was the only person arrested and the only Black tenant.
Following the arrest, the New York State Police issued a press release naming Jordan, triggering public humiliation, job loss, and emotional trauma. Charges were ultimately dismissed on July 1, 2025, after 75 days of reputational damage, lost income, and severe mental distress. A Notice of Claim and a Notice of Intention to make a claim against the State of New York have now been formally served on behalf of Jordan, preserving his right to pursue legal action.
Attorney Crump issued the following statement:
“Alonzo Jordan Jr. was wrongfully arrested, publicly shamed, and forced to live under the weight of a false and devastating accusation. There was no evidence linking him to this crime. Just a shared IP address and a rush to judgment that appeared to target the only Black tenant in the building. We will fight to hold those responsible accountable and ensure that Alonzo gets justice for this terrible and preventable situation.”
