Northwestern University Sports Programs Students & Athletes Who Suffered Sexual Abuse & Ritualized, Team-Focused Hazing May Seek Justice & Compensation
Current and former student-athletes of the Northwestern University Sports Program have come forward with allegations of sexual abuse and ritualized, team-focused hazing against the university’s athletic department.
The lawsuit accuses the athletic department of fostering an environment that allowed such misconduct.
The plaintiffs, all African American, claim they were subjected to sexual abuse and hazing—including reports that a female athletic department employee sexually harassed them.
The lawsuit further alleges that the university failed to act appropriately when these incidents were reported.
The plaintiffs claim that not only was the university’s response inadequate, but they were subjected to retaliation for reporting the misconduct, as well.
We are seeking:
- Players or students involved in the Northwestern Athletics/Team Sports that experienced sexual abuse (football, baseball, soccer, gymnastics, etc.)
- Sexual abuse that was skin-to-skin in nature
- You must know the name of the abuser
- The abuse must have occurred within the last 20 years
- The abuse occurred as part of a “hazing ritual,” in connection with the athletic program, under the knowledge of coaches, team managers, etc.
- Abuse at the hands of coaches, team managers, or staff

Claims That The Response from the Northwestern University Athletic Department and the University as a Whole Were Unacceptable
The university has responded to the lawsuit by stating that they take all misconduct allegations seriously and are committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
Northwestern has fired head baseball coach Jim Foster amid allegations that Foster “engaged in bullying and abusive behavior.”
An investigation of Foster by the school’s human resources department found “sufficient evidence” that Foster harbored a toxic environment within the program.
Foster’s firing comes days after the school fired longtime head football coach Pat Fitzgerald after allegations of hazing within the Wildcats football program.
The University also said that they cannot comment on the specifics of the lawsuit due to the ongoing legal proceedings.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for the alleged misconduct and the university’s failure to respond adequately.
The plaintiffs are also seeking changes in the university’s policies and procedures to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
