OCALA, Fla. –– Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump will join with the family of AJ Owens and community activists on July 8 to hold a rally for justice.
On Friday, June 2, Owens’ children were playing in a field next to an Ocala apartment complex when an unidentified 58-year-old white woman reportedly began yelling at them to get off her land and calling them racial slurs. The children left, leaving behind an iPad, which the woman took. After AJ’s children informed AJ of what happened, she walked across the street with her kids to speak with the woman. She knocked on the door, and at that point, the woman allegedly shot through the door, hitting AJ, who later died from her injuries.
The woman, Susan Lorincz, is charged with one count of manslaughter with a firearm and one count of assault.
