JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Aug. 19, 2026) — Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump will join the family of Asia Bennett for a Thursday news conference. Bennett, 22, was shot and killed by a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) officer on Aug. 11. Attorney Crump will demand that JSO release the body camera and any dash camera footage from the shooting.
Bennett was shot twice and killed at a home in the Arlington area of Jacksonville. According to JSO, officers were called to a report of a battery with injuries. The agency says Bennett came outside holding a kitchen knife and moved toward the first officer to arrive, and its account describes an encounter that began and ended before a backup officer reached the scene. Bennett died at a hospital. JSO has not released the footage.
