JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Aug. 26, 2026) — Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump will join the family of Asia Bennett at a news conference Thursday in Jacksonville. They will respond to the body-camera footage of the shooting that killed Bennett, released Wednesday by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, which the family and their legal team call horrific and unjustified.
Bennett, 22, was a domestic violence victim. She was shot twice and killed by a JSO officer the night of Aug. 11 after officers responded to a domestic call in Arlington.
Attorney Crump released the following statement:
“Asia Bennett was nowhere near those officers. She was 22 years old, 110 pounds, a domestic violence victim standing outside her home, and there was no reason to shoot her. Not once, and certainly not twice. That officer had distance. She had time. She had every option a trained law enforcement officer is supposed to reach for before the gun, and she reached for the gun anyway. Asia should be alive today, and her family deserves justice for losing her too soon.”
