JACKSON, Miss. – Nationally renowned civil rights attorney Ben Crump and the family of Dexter Wade will hold a news conference on Monday following the exhumation of Dexter Wade’s body, as requested by Wade’s family.
Dexter Wade, a 37-year-old who was fatally struck by a Jackson Police Department cruiser in March, was reported by his mother as missing on March 14. However, after searching for answers from the police department for months, Wade’s mother did not learn of her son’s death until August 24, after his body was already discharged by the morgue and buried in a pauper’s field.
After receiving a petition from Wade’s family and Attorney Crump, the Hinds County Board of Supervisors voted to exhume Wade’s body, which will occur on Monday, November 13 at 12 pm The funeral home will receive his body and remove the pole and number that currently mark his grave in the pauper’s field. Additionally, Campaign Zero will assist the family with the exhumation and autopsy costs. Funeral plans will be announced in the coming days.
The family will hold a prayer vigil before the 12 pm exhumation.
