Mitchell’s family is also demanding criminal charges and civil accountability
MILWAUKEE, Wis. –– Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump, co-counsel Will Sulton and B’Ivory Lamarr, and the family of 43-year-old Dvontaye Mitchell will hold a news conference on Monday to continue demands for transparency and accountability for his death from Hyatt. Mitchell, a Black man, was killed by security guards outside a Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Security guards allege Mitchell entered the hotel and “caused a disturbance,” had an altercation with security guards while being escorted out, and was “detained” until police arrived. Mitchell’s mother believes he was suffering from a mental health episode. Mitchell was unresponsive when officers got there and was pronounced dead at the scene. A witness reported seeing three to four security guards with their knees on Mitchell’s neck and back and one of them striking him in the head with an object. Shocking cell phone video corroborates accounts of several witnesses.
