CHICAGO, Ill. – Nationally renowned civil rights attorney Ben Crump; the family of Sonya Massey; Rev. Al Sharpton, founder and president of the National Action Network (NAN); and the Leadership Network will lead a “Remembering Sonya Massey” rally tomorrow at 6 p.m. CST at New Mount Pilgrim Church. A press conference before the rally will address a recent police union grievance filed on behalf of the officer involved in Massey’s tragic death.
Sangamon County Sheriff’s Deputy Sean Grayson shot Sonya Massey in the face, killing her, on July 6. Massey, a 36-year-old unarmed woman, had called the police to report a suspected intruder in her home. Grayson has been indicted and charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and official misconduct. He is being held in custody without bail.
