Lawyers and the family will hold a Monday news conference to demand updates
WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump has joined the legal team for the family of Dalaneo Martin, a 17-year-old shot and killed by a U.S. Park Police officer last year. Crump joins with attorneys from Clarke Law as the family’s legal counsel to demand justice and answers from officials.
One year ago on this upcoming Monday, officers from U.S. Park Police and Washington Metropolitan Police approached Martin while he was sleeping in a car. An officer entered into the back seat, waking Martin. Martin began driving and the officer threatened to shoot him if he didn’t stop the vehicle and let him out. Shortly after, the officer began firing shots at Martin, killing him.
On April 5, 2023, the U.S. Attorney’s office for Washington D.C. released a statement saying they were opening a civil rights investigation into Martin’s death in coordination with the FBI. The legal team and family have not yet received any updates.
