Victory for Plaintiffs as Judge Allows Litigation to Proceed
CHICAGO, Ill. — Nationally renowned personal injury and civil rights attorney Ben Crump and co-counsel from Stowell Friedman issued the following statement after the Honorable Judge Lindsay C. Jenkins of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, ruled in favor of the plaintiffs in their civil rights case against State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co., allowing the discrimination case to move forward as a class-action lawsuit.
The plaintiffs, who are former or current State Farm agents, have alleged that State Farm has systematically discriminated against its African American agents through firm-wide policies and practices. These policies have resulted in lower pay, differential treatment, and higher attrition rates for African American agents.
Attorney Ben Crump released the following statement:
“This decision marks a significant milestone in our fight for justice against the discriminatory practices our clients have endured while working for State Farm. The judge’s decision to allow this case to proceed as a class action recognizes that the issues raised by our clients are not isolated incidents but part of a broader pattern of discrimination affecting numerous individuals. This ruling is a testament to the strength of our clients’ claims and the importance of holding companies accountable for their improper acts and practices.
“We remain committed to pursuing justice for our clients and all those who have been harmed by State Farm’s discriminatory policies. This decision is a significant step toward ensuring that all employees are treated fairly and with respect, regardless of their race or gender.
“As we continue to litigate this case, we are confident that the evidence will support our clients’ claims, and we look forward to advocating on behalf of the class of individuals who have been affected by State Farm’s discriminatory practices.”
The plaintiffs have alleged racial discrimination and retaliation in violation of 42 U.S.C. § 1981, as well as additional claims of racial and sex discrimination and harassment in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
