JOLIET, Ill. –– Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump and co-counsel John Simon of The Simon Law Firm and the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) have issued the following statement in response to the start of trial for the stabbing death of Wadee Alfayoumi. Wadee was a six-year-old Palestinian-American boy who was stabbed more than twenty-six times by Joseph Czuba in a suspected hate crime on Oct. 14, 2023. Wadee’s mother, Hanan Shaheen, was also stabbed over a dozen times during the attack.
Attorneys Crump and Simon and the ADC issued the following statement:
“As the trial begins, Hanan Shaheen continues the unimaginable fight for justice for Wadee. No mother should have to endure such a violent attack and the unimaginable loss of her young son. Despite the grief and heartbreak, Hanan continues to pray for accountability and fairness in this process. We have confidence in the prosecution’s efforts to earn justice for Wadee and Hanan. We ask the media to respect Hanan’s privacy throughout this trial, as she focuses on honoring her son’s memory and getting him the justice he deserves.”
