SENATOBIA, Miss. (June 16, 2026) — Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump and Attorney Van Turner have been retained by the family of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley, who was killed during an officer-involved shooting outside a Walmart in Senatobia, Mississippi.
According to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI), Senatobia police responded to a shoplifting call on June 14 involving two adults at a Walmart in Senatobia. During the encounter, at least one officer fired at a vehicle occupied by 1-year-old Kohen Wiley, his mother, and a family friend. Kohen was struck by gunfire and later died from his injuries. The family friend was also critically injured. The MBI has launched an investigation into the shooting.
Attorney Crump issued the following statement:
“A 1-year-old child is dead because police officers in Mississippi opened fire on a car in a crowded Walmart parking lot. Kohen Wiley was a baby. His mother, who has not been charged with any crime, says she was trying to communicate to officers that there was a baby in the car. They fired anyway, leading to the death of an innocent 1-year-old. We intend to seek justice for baby Kohen and the life that was stolen from him.”
