BOSTON, Mass. (Dec. 11, 2025) – Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump has been retained by Joseph L. Bennett, a Boston man who has filed a civil action against the Commonwealth of Massachusetts seeking compensation and other relief for a wrongful murder conviction that was later vacated and ultimately dismissed.
The complaint states that Bennett served 22 years in prison and that his compensable period of wrongful incarceration ran from approximately 2016 until his release on bond on April 30, 2019. It also notes that after his release, Bennett founded YardTime, an organization that supports returning citizens and works to break cycles of incarceration in Boston.
Attorney Crump issued the following statement:
“Joseph Bennett lost decades of his life because the system got it wrong, and no amount of money can ever give him those years back. What we can do is demand accountability and fight for meaningful justice that recognizes the full human cost of wrongful incarceration. Joseph has rebuilt and turned his pain into purpose. Now we will pursue every remedy available to help make him whole.”
