JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 15, 2026) — Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump of Ben Crump Law has been retained by Tiara Young following a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office traffic stop that allegedly escalated into excessive force.
Ms. Young, 34, was pulled over while delivering food for DoorDash when the encounter turned violent. The family alleges she was kneed in the eye and had portions of her braids ripped from her scalp. Cell phone video of the incident has since circulated publicly, showing a chaotic and aggressive confrontation as Ms. Young repeatedly questioned why she was being ordered out of the vehicle.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has stated the arrest was within policy — a response that has become a troubling pattern. In February 2025, William McNeil Jr. was punched in the face, pulled from his vehicle, and slammed to the pavement during a JSO traffic stop, with Internal Affairs again finding the conduct within policy. In November 2025, body camera footage of Dasaun Williams’ arrest showed officers striking him repeatedly while pinned down — yet the official arrest report made no mention of any force used. Attorney Crump has represented clients in both cases and has called on the Department of Justice to investigate what he describes as systemic excessive force within JSO.

“What should have been a routine traffic stop turned into a brutal and traumatic encounter that left Tiara Young with a knee to her eye and portions of her braids ripped from her scalp. If kneeing a woman in the eye during a nonviolent traffic stop is within department policy, then the policy itself must be questioned. We are demanding the immediate release of all body-worn camera footage, a full independent investigation, and real accountability for what was done to Tiara Young. She deserves justice, and we will not stop fighting until she receives it.”
