ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — On the day following what would have been Micah Dunmore-Tennant’s 15th birthday, nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump—alongside co-counsel Devon Jacob, Richard Stoloff, and Oliver Barry—will join Micah’s family to announce the filing of a 30 million dollar demand on behalf of the family, referred to as an “offer of judgment,” in the wrongful death case against the Pleasantville Board of Education. Micah, who was tragically killed in 2019 at the age of 10, was struck by a stray bullet during a high school football game. Family and attorneys will discuss the continuing toll school shootings have on our society and our children, in addition to the new filing.
The previously filed lawsuit alleges that the Pleasantville Board of Education failed to provide a safe environment for students and guests at the game, and that the absence of metal detectors made the area dangerous, especially given what the district and school administrators knew about the area, including a previous shooting at another youth football event.
The family hopes that this lawsuit will bring justice and compensation for Micah’s family and serve as an example to schools and administrators throughout the state and beyond that it is unacceptable to treat school shootings as a “fact of life.” Instead, steps must be taken to protect our children.
