SHREVEPORT, La. –– National civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump will join Pulitzer Prize winner Nikole Hannah Jones to discuss Henrietta Lacks’ family’s 70-year quest for justice and the intersection of fertility, health equity, and medical racism at the second annual Henrietta Lacks Symposium.
The Southern University Law Center, in partnership with Southern University A&M College and the Southern University Museum of Art Cultural and Heritage Center, is hosting the two-day conference set for March 22-23 at the Southern University Museum of Art Cultural and Heritage Center. This year’s theme is “Humanizing HER: Elevating the conversation of fertility, health equity, maternal health and medical racism.”
The conference will kick off on Friday, March 22 with an intimate dialogue during which both Attorney Crump and Hannah Jones will discuss excerpts from their best-selling books that have sparked global conversations regarding the legacy of American enslavement and the discriminatory practices of the United States criminal justice system. The timely conversation will be moderated by Deleso A. Alford, SULC Rachel Emanuel Endowed Law Professor and Managing Fellow of the Health Equity Law and Policy Institute.
The event is free; however, registration is required. To register and learn more, visit sulc.edu/lackssymposium or contact Jasmine D. Hunter at [email protected] and 225-421-9742.
