RALEIGH, N.C. – National civil rights attorneys Ben Crump and Bakari Sellers will join the mother of Tyrone Mason in a Friday news conference to demand transparency and justice in his case. Mason, a 31-year-old Black man, died in an October crash under circumstances that have led to a North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) probe into two state troopers, Garrett Macario and Sgt. Matthew Morrison.
The SBI launched its investigation after concerns arose regarding Mason’s death. In December, investigators notified Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman, prompting her to review dashboard and body-worn camera footage. Following that review, Freeman announced she was dropping 180 pending cases involving Macario and Morrison due to “credibility issues” and is currently reviewing additional cases.
Members of the media are asked to register for the press conference at this link.
