LOUIS, Mo. –– Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump and attorney Kayla Onder, a nationally recognized advocate for survivors of sexual abuse and leader of OnderLaw’s Sexual Abuse practice, will hold a Thursday news conference to announce the filing of a lawsuit on behalf of dozens of survivors against SSM Health DePaul Hospital and former physician Dr. Craig Spiegel.
The lawsuit exposes horrific crimes and institutional negligence that enabled Spiegel to prey on vulnerable patients, including children, for nearly a decade. Despite repeated warnings and reports of Spiegel’s actions, the hospital failed to act, allowing Spiegel to abuse his position of trust to commit egregious acts on hospital premises.
The legal complaint highlights shocking details, including specific instances where Spiegel forcibly assaulted patients, many of whom were minors. Victims report being fondled, forced to perform sexual acts, and subjected to Spiegel’s depraved behavior in examination rooms, hospital parking lots, and even in his vehicle on hospital grounds. The hospital’s inaction persisted despite reports from staff, police investigations, and complaints to state and federal authorities.
A criminal case against Craig Spiegel is ongoing.
