EVANSTON, Ill. – Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump will be joined by Attorney Steven M. Levin, founding partner of Levin & Perconti, in a news conference on July 19 with the former Northwestern student-athletes who were subjected to hazing, including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.
The Northwestern scandal first became public on July 7 when the head football Coach Pat Fitzgerald was suspended without pay for two weeks due to an independent investigation into hazing allegations in the football program. The next day, on July 8, The Daily Northwestern published an article about the alleged hazing detailing the brutal and barbaric abuses suffered by two anonymous team members. Two days later, Fitzgerald was fired after being the head coach for 17 years.
Attorney Crump, Attorney Levin, and the victims have also uncovered a vast array of incidents of abuse in the Northwestern football program, which they expect to expand beyond this program and expose extreme and abusive hazing in other college athletic programs.
