Jacksonville, Fla. (May 15, 2026) –– Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump will join the family of Morris Anthony Davis at a Monday news conference. They will demand transparency and answers regarding the circumstances surrounding the fatal deputy-involved shooting of Davis on May 9 in Oakleaf Plantation.
On May 9, Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies shot and killed 48-year-old Morris Anthony Davis during a Department of Children and Families investigation at a home in the Silver Bluff neighborhood of Oakleaf Plantation. The family alleges Davis was disabled and experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the shooting. Bystander video of the incident has since circulated widely, prompting calls for accountability from the family, neighbors, and the Clay County chapter of the NAACP.
