ATLANTA, Ga. (May 6, 2026) –– Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump, who represents Rashaad Muhammad, issued the following statement after the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced it is investigating the care he received at the Fulton County Jail.
Muhammad, who lost both legs and all of his fingers, alleges delays in medical care at the Fulton County Jail turned a treatable condition into a catastrophic, life-altering medical crisis after repeated pleas for help went unanswered.
Attorney Crump issued the following statement:
“Rashaad Muhammad was in the custody of the Fulton County Jail when his medical condition allegedly worsened to the point that he lost both of his legs and all of his fingers after repeated cries for help went unanswered. That fact exceeds negligence. It is a devastating failure of basic human dignity and responsibility.
“What makes this even more alarming is that families and advocates have raised concerns about conditions and medical care inside this jail for years. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation opening an investigation sends a clear message that no institution and no individual is above accountability. Rashaad has endured unimaginable pain and suffering, and he deserves justice. No one should suffer injuries this catastrophic while in custody or under the care of any institution. We demand swift accountability so Rashaad can receive the treatment he needs and begin to rebuild his life.”
