LELAND, Miss. –– Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump will hold a news conference with the family of Kadarius Smith, a 17-year-old who was run over by a Leland Police Department cruiser and later died in the hospital. Crump and the family of Smith will demand transparency and call for the release of police footage from the incident.
Smith’s death occurred in the early morning hours of March 21, when he was walking home with friends and the police cruiser began chasing him, according to a witness. According to Smith’s mother, he was run over from behind, leaving police cruiser tire marks on his back.
