HOUSTON, Tex. –– Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump and attorney Paul Grinke will join the families of inmates who have recently died at the Harris County jail to announce the filing of a lawsuit on their behalf. In 2022 alone, at least 28 inmates lost their lives in the custody of Harris County Jail.
The lawsuit names Harris County as the defendant and alleges that plaintiffs were deprived of constitutional rights when they lost their lives at the jail. The lawsuit details Harris County’s longstanding culture of deliberate indifference to the lives of pre-trial detainees that led to the alleged constitutional violations.
