Crump will hold a Wednesday news conference with Leonard’s family
WOODBINE, Ga. –– Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump has been retained by the family of Leonard Cure, a man who was fatally shot during a traffic stop on Monday by a Camden County deputy. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation of the shooting. The shooting that killed Leonard is the 80th officer involved shooting that the GBI has investigated this year.
Leonard spent more than 16 years in prison before he was exonerated for a 2003 robbery based on findings of “actual innocence,” according to The Innocence Project of Florida. Cure planned on pursuing a college degree and frequently spoke at colleges about his experience of being wrongfully convicted.
