Milagros “Millie” Ortiz died after being hospitalized following early-morning collision
ORLANDO, Fla. (January 26, 2026) – Nationally renowned civil rights attorney Ben Crump has been retained by the family of Milagros “Millie” Ortiz, a 92-year-old woman who died after being hospitalized following a collision with a marked Orlando Police Department cruiser last weekend.
According to a preliminary accident report, the police cruiser ran a red light and struck the vehicle in which Ortiz was riding shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday near South Semoran Boulevard and Hoffner Avenue. The report identified the police vehicle as at fault for failing to yield the right of way. Ortiz was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.
Attorney Crump issued the following statement:
“Ms. Millie Ortiz was a beloved matriarch and great-grandmother to 18 great-grandchildren. She was simply on her way home from bingo when her life was tragically cut short. Her family is shattered, and they deserve immediate, truthful answers about why this police cruiser ran a red light and how the officer responsible will be held accountable. We will say her name. We will demand transparency. And we will fight for justice for Millie and everyone who loved her.”
