The family and legal team will hold a Monday news conference
HARTFORD, Conn. (March 8, 2026) –– Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump will join the family of Steven Jones and leaders of the NAACP, including Scot X. Esdaile, president of the Connecticut State Conference of NAACP Branches, at a news conference Monday.They will address the fatal shooting of Jones by a Hartford police officer while Jones was experiencing a mental health crisis.
Jones was shot nine times during his interaction with officers. A recent preliminary report from the inspector general classified the death as a homicide. The Jones family has retained Attorney Crump as they seek answers, accountability, and reforms to law enforcement’s response to mental health crises.
